Where (in tools) are you setting the share ratio?

Gene

This is the only place i could find anything about it

on Azureus the setting is at
"menu tools"-options: Queue-Seeding-First Priority
Which seams to mean that when you have seeded the chosed amount it will
put it automagically on halt or "queued" that it is named on the front
window.

Is anyone out there very informed on configuring the torrent clients
for small/rare torrents like the ones we wish to share? For the
Azureus client there are some config suggestion on their webpage
but it seem like they are biased for larger share pools not for
ones with maybe 30 people in it. It seems like 15 is the max
number of downloads for the biathlon events. Since our pool is so
small we need to leave our clients running as long as possible.
For those of us who have unlimited transfer bandwidth, we should
definitely leave our clients up continuously at 9/10 of our max
upload speed. You need that extra tenth so you can surf the web
with good speed as the web browser need to make requests for pages
and can't do this if the torrent client is hogging the upload. .
And we need to make sure that the share ratio is changed from it's
default of 1:0.8 (meaning for all you download, you only upload .8
of that ie; not the full file) to something like 5:1 It's not
likely that you'll share the file 5 times if others are online too
but it will keep people from getting stuck at .8 of a download.
Also the torrent clients look at your total share ratio, you can
find it under statistics. The client slows the downloads for
people who don't share much so it is really important to get your
overall share ratio to 1:1 the Olympics are coming and you'd hate
to be throttled back at that time wouldn't you?

I have mine set to 10:1 but then it goes slowly because i have 20
torrents seeding at the same time so i maybe takes it down to 5 just
because of the upload limitation of the line i have.
5 completed uploads should be a reasonable high amount of second
seeders. But for the moment it is 10.

Ps on Azureus the setting is at
"menu" options: Queue-Seeding-First Priority

I'll say it's actually working! I'm proud to say that I have nearly all the
XC files tracked on deness above 2:1 share ratios (I've transmitted over
twice as many bytes as I've recieved) and one at over 10:1. I'm on a cable
modem and I've been leaving my machine on pretty much 24/7.

So, is nearly everyone else merely leaching? I'm glad to be able to share,
but I won't be doing this forever. C'mon, people, SEED and set those share
ratios WAY above 0.5 (I have mine set at 10:1 so there's one file that I
have just stopped seeding - someone else's turn? hint hint).

Bob

I think that all people are making a concious effort to help out one aother but I can't help out that much because I am at university and they limit all bandwidth here so helping to upload is a lost cause, and it's almost impossible to dowload to. But over the Christmas break when this started to catch on my ratio was 3:1 upload/download. I will help when ever I return home. I currently looked on th tracker and it says that 11 people are seeding and 12 people leeching. I'd say that's pretty impressive. I'd say that the traffic comes down after a week after a race is posted, therefoe we don't need 20 people seeding if no one is leeching. Anyway, tha's just my 2cents.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers
Adam
