Default Racing that puts premium on skills over waxing?

Maybe this is silly but is there a kind of racing that puts a premium
on skills rather than waxing?

I suppose some races are easy to prep for but that's relative -- an
"obvious" prep of base moly, several sterile waxings, top coat,
brushings, and rilling is still beyond a majority of skiers. Then
there's having the right flex ski for the conditions -- more likely
when one has several sets to compare.

A course that's more like the singletrack of mtbiking might make ski-
fussing less critical. A course with lots of technical up'n'down and
technical twists and even jumps. You'd just need a stout ski, maybe on
the short side. And your skills.

I'm not saying that such skiing would overall improve racing, but it
might be neat to include events that put a premium on handling
skills. ...I don't mean trials and tricks, though.

PS... Any further developments in those sectors of racing that were
trying to limit ski-selection and waxing complexity? I thought that
biathlon was doing something and that another area was considering
limits. ??
