Going crazy from lack of snow?
Today I went for a nice run (not ski! :-() in Nordmarka, in the 50K area:
Everything is frozen solid, but the snow cover is almost non-existent, it would have been quite doable to have a regular Foot-O event there today. :-( Anyway, as I started running along the gravel road from Frognerseteren towards Tryvann and Skjennungen, I met a guy as I was crossing a huge slab of ice (it covered at least 25 m of the road). The guy I met had poles, which made me assume he was out doing some pole walking/running/bounding, but when I got close enough I realized that he was also carrying a pair of roller skis! How crazy do you have to be to try roller skiing on frozen gravel roads, with maybe a cm of snow on top? Terje -- - "almost all programming can be viewed as an exercise in caching" |

with maybe a cm of snow on top? (raising my hand) Okay, not on frozen gravel, but I have gone roller skiing at 15F and walked down hills because I was too afraid of ice patches. No more man, no way. :^] At least I bet he had good bite with the poles on the rocks. jw milwaukee (forecasting snow for tomorrow ...... PULLLEEEEEZE let it snow!) |

Heck, we don't even to have to worry about ice patches. Today we went for a
15 km pole run and hoped for ice in the swampy areas. No such luck. Downright tropical here. Terje- how far do you go to find snow? Kongsberg? I think I'll be skiing Konig Ludwig Lauf with less than 100km of snow skiing in. Gary Jacobson Rosendale, NY "J999w" wrote in message ... Isn't snow skiing just off season training for roller skiing? :

Terje- how far do you go to find snow? Kongsberg? Currently: Just out the door: It started snowing this evening. :-) Gulp, I hope so. I am scheduled to be in Olso starting the 21st for four days. Is that where you are at? I've been thinking that with four days, I probably wouldn't have time to travel farther north to Lillehammer. I've located a friend that is there that was going to help with the logistics, but I really hadn't expected low snow to be a factor! |

Its going to be a poor season here I'm afraid, just the opposite of last year when we had a great season and Western Canada had a poor season. It often seems to flip flop like this in Canada now. |

Get a dictionary and start studying Skiforeningen's trail reports: http://www.skiforeningen.no/markadb/...ing.cgi?id=211 It seems like at least 500+ km of trails was set for today. :-) Terje -- - "almost all programming can be viewed as an exercise in caching" |

Going crazy from lack of snow?
Though conditions almost everywhere else in south-central Ontario have
been next to hopeless for skiing, until today, Highlands Nordic at Duntroon near Collingwood has had quite good to excellent skiing continuously. Despite the +10 temps and rain, even today there was still about 7km well covered, though very icey. The Resolution Race went off as scheduled, except we had to have individual starts because of conditions. I managed to stay more-or-less upright, but was super-cautious, somewhat out of character. No point in ruining the season this early! Lots of spills I heard about, but no serious injuries. Lots of snow and cold coming tonight, so they, and hopefully lots of other places, should have very good conditions soon. See you at the Muskoka Loppet next weekend, Adalbert? Best, Peter |
