Ski Mags
There seems to be a consus that the available ski magazines are not to our
liking, so what content would we like? You never know, someone influential might be lurking... To kick off: News: resorts, pistes, lifts Kit reviews that are critical and objective (and I have to add that to me boot reviews are a waste of time because they are too personal and, for must of us, trends in ski design are more important than actual model comparisons) -- Rod Jenkins UK |

There have been several attempts at starting new 'popular' ski mags in the last few years, none of which has been a rousing success, so it may be better to simply add the features you desire to an existing publication. -- Ace (bruce dot rogers at roche dot com) Ski Club of Great Britain - http://www.skiclub.co.uk All opinions expressed are personal and in no way represent those of the Ski Club. |

There have been several attempts at starting new 'popular' ski mags in the last few years, none of which has been a rousing success, so it may be better to simply add the features you desire to an existing publication. The general trend seems to be closing down rather than starting up. The problem is most mags rely heavily on advertising revenue, and this is a market that has taken a pounding recently. There are also a number of free mags available in resorts. The latest startup is Dark Summer - which is tipped to be a 'UK Freeride Mag' with a difference. We'll see. David ps: ski and board has some interesting articles written by people who have obviously been skiing at least once in their lives (even if they don't live up to everyone's standards of being "professionals" - which to me suggests someone able to down 15 pints in the Printer's Measure), it is not going to attract the teeny boarder readership though and I think Ace has made the same point. |

At a rough guess Ski and Board, Ski Club of Great Britain, The White House, Wimbledon... can't remember the post code, but that must be easy to find on the site (too busy now). -- Ace (bruce dot rogers at roche dot com) Ski Club of Great Britain - http://www.skiclub.co.uk All opinions expressed are personal and in no way represent those of the Ski Club. |

I just wondered if there was an email address for 'ski and bored' and not just a general address for the ski club. Often these mags are produced by a separate team. |

You can't make ski magazines pay for more than two or three issues in a season, and then what do you do with your staff? No "proper" consumer magazine publishing company has ever been daft enough to try. EMAP were working on one and canned it when they worked out the economics - that must have been about five years ago. And for the average Brit skier, it's nopt a sport, but a holiday, so you have to aim it at the lowest common denominators. -- Trophy 1200 750SS CB400F GN250 ST70 YTC#3 GAGARPHOF#30 GHPOTHUF#1 IHABWTJ#1 BOTAFOT#60 ANORAK#06 BOF#30 WUSS#5 "Worse than Timo" - Official |
