Alta and Snowbird sound like powder paradise
is this hype or for real???

+ yes, they get plenty of powder
- they are near a major metropolitan area
- powder lasts about 10 minutes before it's tracked out

If you want powder that lasts longer than the first chair, try some
of the less well know areas.

Look at the numbers. As far as I know only Kirkwood, Tahoe, and
Mammoth, ca and Grand Targhee, wy get as much as alta, brighton,
snowbird, powder mountain, and solitude, that's 500 inches avg. Also
the snow is very dry, so yes they are as good as people say. As
mentioned before they are all close (30 to 40 miles) to downtown so
you can wake up and go to which ever one got the most snow that day.

Add to that list Sugar Bowl, CA and Mt. Baker, WA. And Mt. Fidelity,
BC (heli and backcountry skiing only).
