Cheap, close and good ski resort
Hey, I grew up skiing in the Swiss Alps and am looking for a mountain
with similar difficulty of slopes in the U.S. I have skiied in Wintergreen and Massanutten in VA and Snowshoe in WVA, however, I was quite disappointed by them. Could anyone suggest any other places that would be good skiing? Powder would be a BIG bonus. That's the easy part, the hard part is that it needs to be close to VA or cheap to get to if it's not close. The second thing is that it has to be cheap, or pretty reasonably priced, i.e. accomodations, lift tickets, and restaurants. If anyone has any ideas or advice, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks, Sankalp |

No chance. Only challeging skiing in US with cheap accomodation is Jackson
Hole WY if you are prepared to stay in a $30 dorm. There's one in the basement of Hostel X and one in the basement of Anvil motel. http://www.hostelx.com/ and http://www.anvilmotel.com/ Stayed in both before (Anvil one this year) and both served their purpose. Oh yeah, Taos, New Mexico is another good one with a cheap place called Abominable Snowmansion nearby. http://taoswebb.com/hotel/snowmansion/ Paul "Sankalp Malhotra" wrote in message ... Assuming that you plan to drive, rather than fly, Jay Peak, or Mad River
Glen Vt are fairly cheap. Accommodations near Mad River may be more expensive because of its proximity to Sugarbush. Mad River isn't real big, but if you're looking for challenging skiing, its the place to be.
