Les Carroz advice

I'm staying at the MGM Fermes du Soleil, Les Carroz for a week from 12th
March.

I'm travelling with my wife and 2 daughters (11 & 13) who are of varying
ability, but all are comfortable on blues and can get down reds OK.

Has anyone any top tips or advice about the area. We've never been to the
Grand Massif before and were looking to spend the majority of the week
around Flaine, but looking at the snow and forecasts at the moment we might
be in for a good week across the whole area.

Are there any places we must visit, and any to avoid (bear in mind I'm on a
board and don't like walking!)?
How practical is it to return to the accomodation midday? Also are there any
good mountain restaurants or places in Les Carroz for an evening meal.

Finally, looking at the piste map there only appears to be one line from les
Carroz into the Flain bowl. Is this a bottleneck with big Q's?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Its possible but not very practical to return to Fermes du Soleil at
midday as they are some way from telecabine. There is a ski-bus that
seems to run fairly regularly but it takes a few minutes. If you had a
car you could drive but the village gets a bit clogged at times.
If your wife and kids like easy runs there is a really nice run down to
Morrilion through trees - with a nice lunch spot halfway down,
similarly midway down Timalets there are a couple of really nice spots
- one of which serves great paninis. You won't need to go to Flaine all
the time as the skiing around Les Carroz itself is pretty good. I just
got back and the snow is good all over. I really enjoying going down to
Samoens myself, but I guess its just personal.

The link with Flaine is oK but can get busy late afternoon as there is only
1 way back to LC. The Red from the top of the Gran Vans is wide enough to
take your time but the bottleneck is the Pierce Neige and Arete from the
top of Tete des Saix. This is also the junction over to Samoens and at peak
times it can be packed.

The Morrion area is excellent for families with a very easy cruise to the
Telecabin called Marvel but there are 2 under used Reds which are very
forgiving (easy kids love them) with lots of slightly off piste to practise
on called Stade and Crete. On the LC side the area above the Gron lift has
some cruising Reds and some loveley off piste through the trees at the side
of the Black

Why bother? Most af the Restaurants are similar but I particularly like 2 on
the Red back to LC on the Timalets. this is also my prefered way home as the
Blue Combe gets busy late on.
Les Arrilles (i think) is good for an evening meal and can be seen just
below the Telecabin at LC near the ESF start point.

Finally, looking at the piste map there only appears to be one line from
les Carroz into the Flain bowl. Is this a bottleneck with big Q's?
Flaine has to be seen but there is lots to ski if the conditions are good
low down in LC,Morrillon and Samoens.

Not sure about the Family pass but I would check out if you need the Grand
massif all week. I was there 3 weeks ago when it snowed from the Wed to
Sat. The links to Flaine and Samoens closed as they close the lifts that
get you to Tete des Saix. We only went to Flaine once but paid for the GM
pass and was unable to use it. I would check out if you are able to pay a
supplement on the day you want to go.
One of my party lost her pass on the way down to Flaine. We were told in LC
to keep the receipt in case of loss and it could be replaced. But when we
got to Flaine they wouldn't replace and eventually got a FOC day pass until
we got back to LC. Fortunately the original pass had been handed in at a
lift.

You're going to the right place, there's tonnes of skiing at this
level!

Avoid the big long blue down to Les Carroz - can't recal the name but
it's on the far right hand side as you look at the piste map, it has a
lot of flat on it, so has the Gers run down to Sixt.

Don't know where your place is exactly, but it's pretty easy to ski
back to the bottom of the lift, and there'll be no queues getting back
up the lift. There are a few nice restaurants, I'm afraid I'm rubbish
with names but there large pizza place in the centre of the one-way
system (essentialy a large roundabout) is good. There's a place called
the Onion (or something like that???) which was also good for Diots and
other Savoyard food.

Not in my expereince, they have some pretty speedy lifts there now.
