Default Breck's New Lift

Here is a shot taken 9/24/05 showing the location and progress on the new lift at Breckenridge. The peak is Peak 8 at 12,998. The Lake Chutes are out of the picture to the left:

Where's the poles? Are they gonna pull an Alta? They better get on it.
27F low last night here. I think the ?? labeled spot is the site of the
future 70,000 square foot patrol "shack" and mall. That's how we do it
here in Utah. They need to dig it down more though to use the "we're
just restoring it to the original skyline" ploy.

The new Solitude lodge is pretty much up as a shell, and the new quad is
about done. Bad news is lift tickets will be $50 and single rides $5.20.
Ouch.

Hiked up past the Alta mine with dawgs yesterday. There was still about
4 feet of avalanche debris at the bottom of the Money Shot, AKA Doug's
Drop, the shot we skied Halloween last year.

Well, I think I better build a fire. It's 57 degrees in the house.
Breakfast in fleece.

No towers yet, but you can see 5 bases if you look closely that the BF chopper put down this summer. Opening is Jan 6th. I am hoping for shots on 5 Jan.

The "??" must be the liftee outhouse. I bet it has a better view than yours. Either that, or a mall.

Breck says it'll top out at 12,840'. Bragging rights secured, plus
leaving just enough of a hike to the summit that us tourists can feel
like studs for doing it. Smart.

Well, the tourists maybe can feel like studettes with a seated ride and
a stroll up the ridge, but studlyness requires the full dogleg t-bar and
a bit of a climb. I can just hear the conversation in the lines (there
WILL be lines) about how much coler it was before...

I wonder if the chair seats will be heated.

Nice lift, but what Breck usually doesn't have is snow.

Didn't have any problems with snow the last couple of years. A lot of
these were taken the last few seasons:

There are never any problems with no snow where that lift is built.

Tell that to the bottoms of my skis! Two core shots in one season is
high for a lightweight guy like me.

I had only a few days there on which I thought the coverage was
genuinely and consistently good. But, I'm trying to recall whether I
was there particularly early.

It would help if ski patrol would mark the big hole makers a bit better.

The photo says otherwise; there's almost no snow in it.
