Default Any metric where US skiers are "up there"?

(Problems with replying at posting.google.com, so I'm not sure if this
reply will end up at the right place.)

In answer to Gene Goldenfeld and Terje Mathisen in the thread 'Any
metric where US skiers are "up there"?':

Yes, the numbers I listed were maximum volume O2 per kg body weight.

So does anyone know how US skiers rank in this VO2Max per body weight?

Whew, I guess no one knows much inside WC offseason info regarding how
US skiers and their Euro counterparts compare in nonskiing activities.

The normal definition is

VO2max = (max O2 uptake)/body wt

I believe Chad G. has tested in the mid 70s, but then again I've tested
in the mid 70s, and I don't even see Chad in races like the Mora or
Birkie. So a good VO2max doesn't make you fast. On the flip side, I
believe Frank Shorter was about 68 (mmol/kg), so a slightly inefficient
motor can be compensated with very good efficiency. BTW, I think
average folk are about 30-40 mmol/kg.

Well, even if our US dudes were ski-slouches it would be cool if some
of them could say "Yo, we got 95 VO!" I'm lookin' for anything here. I
suspect that once you start getting numbers WAY up there that
moderately good things start being much more likely than the ye olde
"do a lot with a little" guys.
