Yup, she rather screamed to cover her fear than stop, gutsy [for a 4- yr old], that's why I posted the clip, "Brave the new world." 'later, IS Actually, she screamed because she was in fear because she could *not* stop. Having spent the past two winters mostly teaching beginners, I recognize the classic: one ski straight lining, one ski skidding sideways, weight too far back situation all too well. She screamed when she got to the little bit of pitch near the end of th video because she realize that her speed -- which had been under control up until that point -- was now increasing. -- Alan Baker Vancouver, British Columbia "If you raise the ceiling four feet, move the fireplace from that wall to that wall, you'll still only get the full stereophonic effect if you sit in the bottom of that cupboard." |

Good instructors have got games (actually exercises, but we don't tell the kids that) that get the kids skiing in the correct position with the pressure in the right places. -- Alan Baker Vancouver, British Columbia "If you raise the ceiling four feet, move the fireplace from that wall to that wall, you'll still only get the full stereophonic effect if you sit in the bottom of that cupboard." |

But she'd be having more fun if she was a little more in control. Back seated is how [all] kids under 5 control their skis. Good instructors have got games (actually exercises, but we don't tell the kids that) that get the kids skiing in the correct position with the pressure in the right places. You may give them games to play, even give them instructions, but I don't think that you can change their back-seated skiing, and they have no concept that they need to turn to slow down. I don't teach or give instructions to kids under 5; I just put a harness on them and let them run. I think that they ski better on their own than follow any instructor's instructions. I think she was having fun all the way... She'll be back for more. Hey! No argument there. That was another run of "straightlining" on World Cup, Heavenly. That was a little girl out of control once she hit the steeper part and heading for the fence. No wonder you stopped the video. But she'd be having more fun if she was a little more in control. Back seated is how [all] kids under 5 control their skis. Incorrect. There's certainly that tendency and it is made worse by most gear for kids that age being too stiff, but it doesn't have to be that way. And back-seated doesn't explain why she was stuck on one skis edge (the left) and scraping sideways with the other... The difference is that I've actually done it and you haven't. I don't teach or give instructions to kids under 5; I just put a harness on them and let them run. I think that they ski better on their own than follow any instructor's instructions. Yeah... ...I'm sure you do. You're wrong.
