Usenet readers have all sorts of useless obsolete features like killfiles, marking a message (or thread) as "read", and the ability to sort messages. Who needs that crap when you've got Google Groups? Overrated. the number of newsgroups where you would need any of that is so few anymore. I was kinda thinking I would get spammed with this google account, but nothing of the sort has happened. Why would I bother with setting up another stupid software application, locating a good newsfeed, or any of that crap when I can just let Google do it all for me? Besides the advertisements that come up are amusing. It's not like you're using a 486-base PC anymore. Or are you? I'm using a 32-base PC, although our servers are mostly 64-base. Where do you get this base 486 chip? Sounds fast. All your base are belong to us, smartass. Now make your time before someone set you up the bomb. |

As it turns out, this is one of them where you desperately need those features I was kinda thinking I would get spammed with this google account, but nothing of the sort has happened. Cause it takes all of five minutes and will save you at least that much the next time Scott or Bert discover time on their hands. You have a perfectly good and free application right on your computer. Outlook Express has worked just fine for me for years and its nowhere near as awkward to use as Google Groups. Besides the advertisements that come up are amusing. I'm guessing you are also a fan of cold toilet seats? (and moguls?) It's not like you're using a 486-base PC anymore. Or are you? The entire newsgroup has killfiled you, that's what gives. It's a plot. -- ant Don't try to email me! I'm using the latest spammer/scammer's email addy. |

I'd provide a counter-example, but unfortunately I can't seem to think of a newsgroup where you'd want a killfile. I'm sure one will come to me eventually.... I was kinda thinking I would get spammed with this google account, but nothing of the sort has happened. Gmail is pretty good about stopping span. Yahoo too .(I've posted my yahoo address unmunged a bunch of times with no detectable increase in spam.) aol & hotmail are worthless at stopping spam. Why would I bother with setting up another stupid software application, locating a good newsfeed, or any of that crap when I can just let Google do it all for me? Why should I bother acquiring a set of socket wrenches when I've got this perfectly good pair of pliers and a butter knife? Seriously, I keep waiting for Google to make a decent newsreader, figuring that they've created some pretty usable stuff in the past, but so far they haven't. Besides the advertisements that come up are amusing. I've already got a mortgage. And all the Viagra I need, thankyouverymuch. //Walt |

Who needs that crap when you've got Google Groups? Overrated. the number of newsgroups where you would need any of that is so few anymore. :-) Actually, it's not funny. I've killfiled the .ch domain (which probably kills a lot of others, but who cares?), but most of the crap comes with subjects and senders that change on a daily basis -- and that's all Thunderbird will filter on. I was kinda thinking I would get spammed with this google account, but nothing of the sort has happened. They have nice spam filters. Every once in a while I go to the site and look at what's in the junk folder and delete it. Some comes through, but not enough to worry about. Why would I bother with setting up another stupid software application, locating a good newsfeed, or any of that crap when I can just let Google do it all for me? Besides the advertisements that come up are amusing. You don't see them if you don't go to the website. Actually, I've trained myself so I just about never see ads -- which makes it difficult (with a few exceptions) when I actually have to look for one. -- Cheers, Bev Some mornings it's just not worth chewing through the straps. |

I have to look at everything to make sure that widely accepted social limits are being breached on a regular basis. Why would I bother with setting up another stupid software application, locating a good newsfeed, or any of that crap when I can just let Google do it all for me? I've run them off. They are afraid to post a lot in the presence of a Certified Usenet Immoderator. We are almost as intimidating as Mighty Hungarian Warriors. The only reason to use newsreader software is to hack it to do silly and annoying things. And Google allows me to change my name to something stupid like 'The Dream of Butter', so there you go. |
