Default Skis only good for 50 outings?

I bought a new pair of boots the other day and the salesman mentioned that skis
were only good for about 50 sessions before there was a notaceable decrease in
performance. I have never heard of that before. Was this just a salesman
trying to sell me skis, or is this legitimate?

I use the 181cm XP for practically everything off-piste. You can't go far
wrong with a 70-72mm waist and 16 or 18mm of sidecut depth (this would mean
108-110mm shovel and 98-100mm tail) -- pick your own length but for lots of
bumps nowadays I'd go around 175cm.

I like metal skis but I ski bumps smoothly (euphemism for "I ski 'em with
ancient knees"). If you hack 'em, get a ski with no alu or titanal layers.

If you like skiing bumps and alternate between HackTrackitis and
the more relaxed line BUT you want to go elsewhere on the
mountain, what sort of ski would you recommend? I really don't
want to waste money on a mogul-specific ski.
