Default Highcountry Skating (was: For inspiration: a true vikingbreaks a record)

I thought it was very interesting but as a Brit who has never skied in teh
SIerra may I ask a few stupid questions?
Firstly I assume you are talking about spring/corn snow forming natuaral
hard pack
Secondly what about tehr rest of the kit? Am I right in thinking that you
are using some sort of nnn bindings and skate boots? And how wide are the
skis ( you may have told us this but I haven't picked up on what you said.
It sounds like you descending quite steep slopes are using linked turns?
Telemarks? parallels?
And finally is what you call an ice tool what I would call and ice axe? I
assume yuo can't use crampons on skate boots or can you?
Thanks

Thanks a lot Mark -- I think this set of posts sharing your experiences and
advice is the best lesson on high-country skating we're going to see in a
long time.
