I have been taking Addvil when I need it.

Point to consider: ibuprofin (advil) is an anti-inflammatory. Part of
its pain-reducing capability is due to this. As such, it makes sense to
take it prophylactically if you've got an owie and know it'll be acting
up, rather than waiting for the inflammation (and thus pain) to get
started.

It feels better each day,
though is still sore. It's at its worst at night. I think I'm going to
sit out skiing for the next couple of weeks and set my sights for the
12th when I'm planning on going to Heavenly.

Smart move. Seems like we all have to learn the hard way about letting
things heal.

I saw that one on TV, pretty wild. I had a tumbler yesterday at Kirkwood
that was the most spectacular fall I've ever had.

[snip]

Oooh. Is this an invitation to share our nastiest-ever falls?

The screen shimmers and we find ourselves watching a grainy, black and white
video recording ...

I remember it like it was yesterday, though it must have been almost ten years
ago. The gentle slope had powder-puff moguls on it, as soft as could be. It
was my very first mogul run. Somehow, I got through all of the moguls and was
skiing triumphantly toward the bottom of the lift, which ran above this run,
when ... I hit a bump. It was probably about the size of a fist, maybe
smaller, but it actually threw me into the air and I landed on my stomach. It
knocked the wind out of me, cracked the lens of my goggles, and gave me a
bloody nose. All under the lift, of course. Then, to add insult to injury,
ski patrol came and wasted about an hour of my ski day forcing me to fill out
waiver forms. Boo, hiss!

I had a nasty fall into some rocks when I was 18. I wound up in the
hospital or 10 days, seven of which were in the ICU with a shattered
elbow and severed small intestine. If was wasn't so broke at the time I
would have had more than an apple for breakfast which would have likely
killed me from peritenitus (sp?).
I also cracked a couple of ribs crashing my mountain bike pretty hard
once. Right in allergy season. Those were some painful sneezes!

After busting a rib, I learned the hard way to avoid carbonated
beverages. That hiccup nearly dropped me to my knees...

Y'all have great stories, but I was renovating
my house in anticipation of making a place for
my soon to be bride. Now we aren't spring chickens
to be waiting around for the sanctification of
the union if you get my drift, when, much to my
surprise and chagrin, I fell off the edge of a
deck about 3 feet above the ground and landed
face-first with my hand against my chest. This
was one of those times when I had time to say
to myself, "Oh ****, this is going to hurt."
I was right. Cracked at least two.

Let me tell you it was a dry couple of weekends
following that event.

Well, maybe you guys shouldn't have been boinking on the deck!

Or did I read that wrong? *grin*

JQ Thanks for the correction/amplification of my earlier hurried response.
When I saw Monique's reply I did a few quick googles.

Tylenol is clearly indicated in liver problems. Ibuprofen seems to be
indicated in liver problems when there is *already liver disease present*,
specifically hepatitis (B, I think).

I would never suggest that any OCD (over the counter drug) be taken on a
regular basis over a prolonged period of time (a week would be my maximum)
without guidance AND monitoring from a doctor.

I don't know how significant this is, but when my husband was in the hospital,
they wouldn't let him take more than a very set amount of tylenol/ibuprofin
per day. That amount was surprisingly low, although I can't remember the
actual value, so I realize it's kind of useless. Fortunately, hospitals have
access to all sorts of wacky meds that you can't just get OTC.

Anyway, it seems to me that the medical community is pretty strict about not
taking too much of these pain killers, even when you're constantly being
monitored.

Well you did, but it was funny enough so that
it's OK.

Actually depending on what ailes you Ibuprofen is a great anti inflamitory.

Yup. pretty much all the good stuff.

Ibuprofen isn't classified as a pain killa.
