Default 2007 Vasaloppet

OK, I'll be a geek and start the 2007 Vasaloppet thread as therapy for
my post-Vasaloppet blues.

There are already 3,234 skiers registered for next year (5,000+ for all
races that week). I registered the day after we got back from this
year's race - going back to redeem myself but mostly because it was an
incredible week. I already sent a note to the woman that owns the B&B
in Mora that we stayed at that we will return next year. Probably
should go do the Norwegian Birkie (or some other Worldloppet race)
first before going back to Sweden but couldn't resist. I can easily
see myself returning year after year for this race.

Anyone else signed up already? Only 342 days left to train.

Sounds like a great event if you registered now again already!
To be honest, I had absolutely no interest in ever learning classic
technique until I saw live coverage of the last 2 hours of men pretty much
doublepoling all the way home. Maybe 2008...

Will your new starting position be better next year, where did you start
this year?

I was in group 2 based on past U.S. Birkie results. So, I have no
excuses other than my bonk at 50k resulting in a death march the last
40k and a time of 7:01. I have a feeling that may put me back in
group 3 (4??) next year if they only use my 2006 Vasaloppet time.
Since they use results from the past 3 years, maybe my previous Birkie
results can still be used to keep me in group 2 again. If I get group
3 I'll definitely get to the start very early so as to get near the
front row.

Dam...I'm obsessing already....wish I hadn't signed up for Ironman
Wisconsin this year. I'd rather train 100% for skiing.

Did I say 2008? make that 2010. But then, I have some business to take of in
Whistler around that date, schedule might get tight :-)

Group 2, is that good? Too good, were you dropped , or doing well for 50k?
An Ironman bonking, wow...

it was a very hard course this year for vasaloppet.
has happened before .... beautiful weather and good course all the way
to saturday before vasaloppet and boom.... freeash snow and blowing cold
or the opposite, sudeenly warmer weather!. either way makes for a long day.

but mostly because it was an
incredible week.

that it is, no matter what the weather.
you should do the halv vasan for warmup. thats what the veterans do.

What about the 61-year-old professor who did the =D6ppet Sp=E5r on Sunday
(in 5:29) and on Monday (in 5:50) as a warmup for the Vasaloppet (in
6:41)? With his 33 Vasalopp and 6 =D6S he should surely qualify as a
veteran?:-)

BTW he did all three on the same pair of skis prepared by Leonid
Kuzmin...

Precis.
a vasalopps verteran is a man who has skied vasaloppet and/or ÖS 30
times; there is exctra recognition for those with 40 or 50 times more.
And I write man because it is only 20 years or so that women have
officially been able to go vasaloppet.

and last year, there was a woman who skied
fri kort vasan 30km
sat tjej vasan 30km
sun Öppet Spår 90km
mon OS relay 24 km
tues HV 45km
wed Skejt vasan 30km
sun VL 90km

and any one of them in a time i can only dream of!
