In case anybody is planning a holiday to Les Houches in the Chamonix valley be
aware that a legal dispute between the operators could mean that the no lifts
will be running

On the face of it, this looks to be a really sad state of affairs, not least
since Les Houches offers FAR better skiing than its location right at the
start of the Chamonix Valley suggests. Too often thought of as somewhere to
head when high winds close the cable-cars further up the valley, we were
actually really surpised when we based ourselves there last season,
coinciding with the FIS Men's Downhill.

A further point is that apart from the (well worthwhile, IMHO ) enforced
trip through the tunnel to Courmayeur, the free public transport network
does a pretty good job of getting skiers around what is a pretty strung-out
area - so integrated lift ticketing providing freedom of choice throughout
the whole valley makes real sense.

The present situation is an object lesson in the need for lift
companies/communes to find and maintain ways of working together. Lets hope
that this situation can be resolved once and for all - I note from the SEPP
website a reassurance that the Les Houches/Saint-Gervais ski area will be
fully-functioning this season.

We'll dig deeper...

There is a lot of politics surrounding this so it's better not to read
too much into this potential decision. I can tell you from trusted
sources that La Compagnie du Mont Blanc who operate all the other
lifts in the Chamonix Valley are ready to take over the running. As
you can imagine Les Houches authorities won't just let the lifts
remain closed! They certainly have the emergency powers to appoint a
temporary operator. This could well be La Compagnie du Mont Blanc ...
