Travelling BC
I took a trip around BC recently and visited:-
Apex Mountain Big White Kicking Horse Mt Norquay Panorama Silver Star Sun Peaks Apex and Norquay are small, but have some fun terrain. All the others are bigger in some degree and have their own pros and cons. In one way, it was unfortunate we didn't get huge dumps of snow. On the other hand, I couldn't have done that much driving with too much snow on the roads, and a fresh dump makes any mountain seem brilliant. Recommendations:- * Big White on the odd day when it's sunny. Great terrain variety, great terrain park. * Apex. Very quiet, zero lift lines (mid week), well groomed pistes. * Tandoori Grill, Versatile Drive, Kamloops, (Hwy1 exit 367) next to the Holiday Inn Express, nr the Super8 - absolutely brilliant East Indian food and top notch service. * Attridge Board shop in Vernon, great service, lots of stock. Negatives:- * Big White when it's busy. A lot of people live in Kelowna. * Kicking Horse without fresh snow. * Darkside board shop in Golden, the most unhelpful service I've ever experienced in Canada. * Driving in snow around a bend and finding a logging truck sliding sideways towards you at 90kph. The scenery driving through the mountains in Glacier National Park is amazing, as is the Southern section of the Kootenay National Park. It was so much better doing those routes in the daylight rather than the middle of the night. Also driving alongside Lake Okanagan towards Penticton at sunrise was pretty awesome - and it reminded me so much of the opening sequence for The Shining, where he's driving up a mountain road past a lake. - Dave. -- The only powder to get high on, falls from the sky. http://www.vpas.org.uk/ - Snowboarding the worlds pow pow.
