It might be good one more weekend. Keep hanging on.

I've known people who hike up to Isabelle Glacier in the Indian Peaks to
ski. It's only about a two or three hour hike up, about the same amount of
time you might sit in traffic on I-70 :-)

british & snow here is poor to say the least. When it eventually

Rubbish! Last time it snowed here it wasn't enough even for that!

Rubbish yourself. Thursday 30th January there were 3-4 inches of snow
that fell during the evening rush hour. People were stranded on the M11
until Friday afternoon. I was lucky, I managed to get off it on Friday
morning after 4 hours and just made my flight at Gatwick to go skiing in
Verbier.

Here you go:

http://www.skiclub.co.uk/skiclub/com...ts/snowreports
..asp

you need to be a member - only takes 5 mins, is free + worth it - have
lots of good historical data for a large portion of resorts. It's one
of the reasons i chose serre chevalier. Also now have a hol booked to
les gets - porte du soliel for 2 weeks!! Easyjet is top for cheap hols
at the mo!

Oh - I didn't know that. On 30th January I was busy trying to use my
share of a metre of fresh snow in Les Gets, a cruiser resort where they
don't go out when it's snowing and they don't go into the woods between
the pistes!
It's a hard job, and I hadn't a clue how to go about it - still haven't,
either. Falling head-first out of a snowdrift onto a green piste didn't
seem quite right, though it was worth it for the faces of an elegant
French mother and daughter when I landed in front of them...

It probably didn't snow here anyway, we're further west than you are.

It snowed enough in Wales that I needed the snow chains to get out
from my house.

But only the one day.

Was that the night of Friday 3rd January, when we were in Capel-y-Ffin?
It turned very cold after the snow stopped, and there was snow and ice
all over the Black Mountains in the morning - beautiful, but very
technical to ride your bike on.

I think so. I know it was a Saturday morning I needed the chains this
year, and early in the new year.

Since we moved in here (3 years ago last jan), there has always been
at least one day each winter I have needed the chains, but never more
than 4.

'Ere, talking of totally OT, you know you said you don't do
conversational Welsh?
The answer to that is, Welsh farmhouse cider - a couple of pints of
mountain-valley scrumpy'll make the phrases roll off your tongue in a
way beer or wine can't match, and you can even buy it commercially now!
