Montgenevre
Can anyone come up with a persuasive argument why I shouldn't arrange a
mixed-ability group holiday to Montgenevre in the last week of March? Got flights to Turin booked, Montgenevre an hour & a half away, high level resort (1800m+), linked with Serre Chev & Milky Way, good snow record, family friendly (have kids going)... Anyone got anything bad to watch out for or good to confirm the choice? |

Every year is different so this doesn't come with any guarantees, but when I was in Sestriere in March 2003 Montgenevre had the best snow conditions of the whole Milky Way. Good luck and may you have the same experience... -Sarah |

There's no real reason at all not to go. I've only had a day there but liked
it, its' only a bus ride from Briancon (Serre Chevalier) and linked to the Milky Way. Have a good time. Rob "Carl Edwards" wrote in message ... Anyone got anything bad to watch out for or good to confirm the choice? M'Genevre is a liitle gem, I was there this time last year for 5 days - flew to Turin and hired a car and stayed in the Hotel Napoleon. My first trip there was way back in 99 when we did a day tour up there when I was with La Grave guides - and since then we've been back on a couple more occassions where there are some very good off piste itineries, I also took five / six families to Claviere which it links with just 2kms down the road in Italy about 5 years ago - grreat for the kids, but for a few of the adults we also had a ball as we knew some of the more interesting bowls and how to get in and more importantly out of them - there was a very confused Crystal Rep who could not believe some of the video footage we had of untouched spring snow and how the hell we were finding it! It's never crowded because there's not much available accomodation and being on the top of the pass at 1,800 it has good snow cover - and you have both North and South facing slopes unlike Clavier - it's a bit of a hike to do the Milky Way,which I've never managed due to poor snow cover in the very villages lower down from Calviere - but if you have a car ..... one thing to watch out for is the link back from Clavier it can shut early - but no real problem to hitch back - one morning I drove the car down first thing and then skined back so we had the car there which was a superb move as the link was not open back so no one went over and we had all the untracked to ourselves from the M'Genevre side - plus you can go down to Briancon and do Serre Chevalier.- but at that time of year - drive up the Serre valley to Monetier and go from there - hey conditions are so good at that time of year, that's why we're back in La Grave then! |

Montgenevre *Lovely* place. Claviere, Sestriere and Montgenevre. The links between the two aren't as good as they're made out to be in the brochures, but it's a gorgeous place. -- Trophy 1200 (Doctored) 750SS CB400F CD200 ST70 DT50MX GAGARPHOF#30 GHPOTHUF#1 BOTAFOT#60 ANORAK#06 YTC#3 BOF#30 WUSS#5 http://www.chateau.murray.dsl.pipex.com/ |

Going back for 3rd time next week
Enough reds for upper intermediates. Run layout is best I have come across for a mixed ability group (always the case) so that neo-beginners and intermediates can spend day is similar area and meet up for lunch There is a great cabin to eat lunch at the Clavier / Italian "starting point" The town has all the charm of French purpose built resort. Easy access from Turin airport either by car or train to Oulx then taxi. As long as snow is there and not too crowded you'll find it ideal IMHO. Clive |
