Default Proper/Optimum placement of bindings in roller skis

I read the following in Len's V2 Technique and Binding Placement
instructions that came with new 105SRX roller skis and wonder if our
bindings have been mounted too far back: "Jim Galanes, former US Ski
Team member and now coach for many of the best skiers in the country,
said he long ago discovered that binding placement and technique are
the most important factors in wheel wear on skate skis. Jim has the
skiers stand with a scale under the rear wheel and he mounts the
bindings so the load on the front wheel is almost equal to the rear
wheel. This puts the bindings quite far forward."

This makes sense. Looking at our shafts, our bindings are not mounted
in this way. My bindings are located such that the heel of my US 12
boots are right up against the rear of the roller ski shaft, and the
heel of my wife's US 7.5 boot is only about 1.5 inches away from the
rear of the roller ski shaft. Our bindings are both mounted in the
same spot on the shafts.

I'd sincerely appreciate any feedback on these so that I can improve
the binding location before we use these. I have a photo I can send
anyone showing the binding location.

You might try asking some dealers, such as Gear West (MN) or Dick Fultz
of the Cross Country Ski Shop of Grayling (MI).

Default Proper/Optimum placement of bindings in roller skis

MW:

The problem with a more forward-mounted binding on a roller ski is tail
drag. How far the binding is mounted in front of the balance point, the
weight of the RS & the stiffness of your binding bumper determines how much
of a problem that is.

With that said both my V2s & my Pro-Ski's were mounted following the
directions that came with the skis. This said essentially "mount so the
heel is as close to the rear wheel as possible." My Marwe's were mounted by
Finn-Sisu with the bindings very far forward, which went against the Marwe
recommendations (heel near rear wheel). I spoke with Finn-Sisu about this
when I received them. Their reasonings were basically similar to Jim
Galanes argument. I personally think the Marwe's have a more balanced feel
& believe a good part of that feeling is the binding position.

MOO,
Matt

I spoke with Robin at Jenex today and found out that both my wife's
and my roller ski bindings were mounted in the wrong position by the
shop. The shop felt bad and is sending us a new pair and paying for
the shipping return of the pair we had. I knew they were mounted
wrong when I saw that both of our bindings were in the same position.
Jenex's official mounting instructions for the 105SRX say that a US
size 7.5 boot's front pin receptor should be 14.5 inches from the rear
of the shaft (not the wheel forks) when looking at the shaft from
above. A US size 12 boot's front pin receptor should be 16 inches
from the rear of the shaft. We have Pilot 07 skate bindings, which
have a hook for a second bar on the front of the boot right after the
front bar, which appears to prevent tail drag.
