WASATCH MOUNTAINS/IDAHO PORTION-WASATCH PLATEAU/BOOK CLIFFS-
WESTERN UINTA MOUNTAINS-
400 PM MDT SAT APR 17 2004

....HEAVY SNOW WARNING MOUNTAINS LATE TONIGHT AND SUNDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A HEAVY SNOW WARNING FOR
THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTHERN UTAH AND THE WASATCH MOUNTAINS OF EXTREME
SOUTHEAST IDAHO FOR LATE TONIGHT AND SUNDAY.

THE LEADING PORTION OF A STORM SYSTEM MOVING OVER THE REGION THIS
AFTERNOON WILL PRODUCE SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS AND ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THIS EVENING. SNOW LEVELS WILL REMAIN NEAR 8000
FEET THIS EVENING BUT DROP TO NEAR 6500 FEET AFTER MIDNIGHT. AS THE
CORE OF THE STORM SYSTEM MOVES INTO UTAH LATE TONIGHT...WIDESPREAD
HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AND CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST
MIDDAY SUNDAY. THE BRUNT OF THE HEAVY SNOW WILL BE SUNDAY MORNING
BEFORE BECOMING SHOWERY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS
OF 10-15 INCHES ARE EXPECTED THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON. LOCALLY HIGHER
AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE ALONG THE WEST FACING SLOPES OF THE WASATCH
MOUNTAINS

ANYONE PLANNING ACTIVITIES IN THE MOUNTAINS LATER TONIGHT AND SUNDAY
SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR A RETURN OF WINTER LIKE CONDITIONS.
