Hi,

a good idea to travel by 5th wheel trailer home?

We're from the Netherlands, so we don't have much experiance traveling such
a trailer home during winter.

FWIW, I am not sure if you can rent a fifth wheel. It is a large
trailer that requires a very large "hitch" to be attached to the bed of
a pick up truck. Might be better to stick to a motor home.

Also, I am not sure how well insulated these things are (5th wheels,
trailer caravans, motorhomes).

There are places to winter camp in Banff, but you had better be an excellent
driver if you want to haul a 5th wheel on Hwy #1 in a snowstorm especially
at night. The pass around Golden BC can be a challenge in winter.

Hi Jorrit,

In years past I used to camp in a VW Westfalia camper to ski at Whistler.
Most Winter campers used motorhomes. If you have never Towed a 5th Wheel
or even a Travel Trailer through the mountains in Winter, I would recommend
against it. A motorhome with will give you fewer problems with sway in the
wind and snow. I also recommend that you book campgrouds in well advance
and make sure that they have good washroom facilities with showers.

Good luck.

Doug
