Possibly related to 'nappe' (pronounced 'nap') which means tablecloth.
Whenever I hear crap like that I want to grab a greasy roast turkey leg, take
a huge bite out of it and then fling the rest to the nearest dog.

Common usage he "Served with au jus." Stupid pretentious assholes can't
even get it right.

I have had a waitress ask me "Do you want some au jus with that steak?"

But not at Outback.
