Atomic R11 vs Salomon Scream 10 Pilot
I'm currently looking at the R11 in a 160cm vs the Scream 10 Pilot in a
170. I'm 5'8, 160 lbs. I currently ski Atomic C:9's and find them nice and fast on the groomers, but crap in moguls or trees/powder. I recently demoed a pair of Salomon Scream Limited's in a 170 that I loved. Much easier to throw around in the bumps and trees, and much better flotation in the powder, but still held on well enough while going fast (35-40 mph I'd guess) on slightly icy hardpack. I'm not in deep powder often (this is the Northeast... Killington, Gore, Whiteface, etc), but do end up in some in the trees occasionally. What really appealed to me about the Scream Limited's was that they made it much easier for me to toss the skis around in the bumps and trees. The C:9's by comarison feel like the tails want to just grip the snow instead of being kicked around, which made tree skiing and mogul skiing very hard, and it didn't feel like I was giving up so much piste performance that they weren't any fun to shove around. The R11's are $250 and the Scream 10 Pilot's are $399. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. |

I happen to like the XScream line from Salomon though my last pair has been relegated to off-piste skis with FreeRides on them, my current "working" skis are Fischer MountainX which ski and look like Salomon XMountain skis. My XScreams and my MountainX's are 178cm, but I'm 6'tall, 200#. Atomic Bindings have some features that others don't have but which I feel to be of limited value, like the ability to change the location of toe piece. A feature I have on several skis by virtue of the fact that I have demo bindings on them, but NEVER move the toe. Have you skied the R11's? Again, if not go for the Salomons. I'm assuming that you are buying used demo skis or have some other REALLY good pro price arrangement for either skis. VtSkier |

VtSkier The Scream's are used from a local shop.. well work, lots of scratches on the top side (no gouges, amazingly), and the base and edges are flawless. The R11's are an offer from someone on a ski forum, says thery're in excellent condition. I think I'll go with the Screams and keep my C9's for ice days or places where there is no good tree skiing. Thanks for your input. Jon |

Dear Jon:
I just graduated from the Atomic C9s to R11s. I demoed the R11 and thought they were the best ski. I am 5'6", 150 lbs and went with the 152 cm. Ski in east with a couple of road trips to the west. Gary |
