Weekend Ski Breaks
I am looking to grab a long weekend of skiing, flying out on Thursday
25/3 and returning Sun 28/3. I would prefer to go to Meribel but am open to suggestions (for an intermediate). Can anyone recommend a decent B&B or hotel to stay in for a couple of days. I have looked at the various tour operators but they are unable to accomodate - they are either fully booked or way too expensive. Thanks J |

Why not fly into Zurich with EasyJet or whatever - loads of accessible
resorts by guaranteed public transport, I know you could get a cheap hotel in Laax (other resorts will also be open), usual disclaimers do not apply. -- Simon Brown www.hb9drv.ch wrote in message om... Some parking, ski in/out, small rooms but clean and comfortable, nice breakfast, evening meals too - the one we had was OK but a small portion. Nice little bar. Not connected with it in any way, just stayed there for a few nights last month. |

Thanks J Unless you can get a flight to Chambery I think Meribel is a bit far for a long weekend. You'd spend too long travelling and not enough time skiing. I did a 4 day trip to Les Carroz a couple of weeks ago - 7:30am flight from Heathrow to Geneva, on the slopes by 12:30 that day, on the Sunday we skied 'till 1pm and then headed back to Geneva. I could have got a later flight and had a full day but my friends were flying to Leeds and could only get a mid afternoon flight. Les Carroz links to Flaine and there is plenty of good high stuff there that should be excellent in late March. There are lots of other resorts with an hour of Geneva, so I'd look into these before choosing the 3 valleys. As for transport, either arrange a transfer (see below) or hire a car. We stayed in this place (http://www.lescarrozski.com/page4.html), the owners can arrange a pick for EUR100 each way if you don't want to hire a car. Have fun! Steve Thanks I would prefer a resort with a decent night life and please can you give me tel. no's if available. |

Can anyone recommend a decent B&B or hotel to stay in for a couple of days. I often do this sort of trip, usually flying out on a Thursday evening after work (cheaper than a Friday) and returning Monday or even Tuesday morning as there are very early flights from Geneva back to London (stay the night before at the Formule 1 motel at Ferney Voltaire 5 minutes from Geneva airport www.hotelformule1.com). Meribel is, I guess, about 2.5 hours drive from Geneva so perfectly reasonable for a weekend. Few tour operators will help you out for non Saturday to Saturday stays but the tourist office in the resort will often be able to help you find accomodation. Another tactic I have used successfully is to call or email a rental agency in the resort (there is a list on www.meribel.net ) you won't get B&B but they usually have a goood stock of privately owned properties available for rentals. You may find it difficult to get a reservation until a couple of weeks before you go as no one wants to loose a 7 day booking, but providing its not peak season you should not have too much difficulty. If you're willing to do the bus then have a look at www.skiweekends.com
The bus is a pain, but I doubt you can do it cheaper! wrote in message om... I am looking to grab a long weekend of skiing, flying out on Thursday 25/3 and returning Sun 28/3. Weekend Ski Breaks
Hi J,
Any particular reason for Meribel? It's just a long way for a weekend and there are many resorts within easy reach of, say, Geneva or Turin that may be just as good, or better, for an intermediate. Specifics for starters, good for intermediates and fairly snow-sure, would maybe be Flaine (1 hour from Geneva), Cervinia or Courmayeur (under 2 hours from Turin or Geneva - so choice of flights too!). There is a growing pack of info, on weekend skiing, over at j2ski.com (try a href="http://www.j2ski.com/portal/content.php?article.13"Ski From Geneva/a for starters). Hope that helps, Dave http://www.j2ski.com/portal (Portal for the Independent Skier) wrote: I am looking to grab a long weekend of skiing, flying out on Thursday 25/3 and returning Sun 28/3.
