I bought some Westbeach trousers this time around. They are seriously
thick and really quite heavy, really well made and designed. Also fit
me well, even though I am 30-32 inch waist but 5"7 (ie usually hard to
find ones not too long in the leg). These seem pretty high-tech, only
thing is they may be a little too warm in France next week if the
sun's out!

Insulated pants aren't as useful as shell pants. I suggest you get
yourself some good shell pants, a pair of polypro long underwear and a
pair of fleece pants. Then you can wear various combinations depending
on how cold it is.
