Here are the lies line by line..

" went to Nam as a journalist."

Scooter wasn't accredited with a news organization. He wouldn't be allowed in South Vietnam as a Journalist.

Universities and Colleges didn't send University/College Reporters to Vietnam. There was only one accredited College Journalist who was in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and it was for a College Alumni Magazine.

"II managed to get a chance to visit a couple of high school friends who had been
drafted"

This sentence is from someone who had no idea about how the US Military and MACV worked in Vietnam.

No one is going to "Managed" a visit, the MACV (Military Assistant Command Vietnam) was the main bureaucratic hub for US presence in Vietnam. All Visiting US Journalist had to go through them. A US Journalist could travelled around Vietnam on their own, but any US military assistance has to get clearance from the MACV. The only helicopter base that journalist went out of was Bien Hoa near Saigon.

Scooter has said in the past he went to Vietnam as a "Dare" from US Navy SEALS, which is just as stupid and idiotic of a lie..

"were stationed at a forward fire base."

There were no US manned "Forward Fire Bases" in South Vietnam in April 1972. (the month and year of Scooter's fantasy that he was in Vietnam) "Forward Fire Bases" aka Fire Support Bases, (FSBs) were artillery support baes, used by the US Army and Marines for offensive operations. The last US offensive in Vietnam was in November 1971. From 1971 onward, the US was withdrawing US Soldiers in large numbers, that by end of April 1972, there were around 69k US Troops in Vietnam, down from 500k soldiers in 1969.

Most of these troops were to protect fewer US bases in Vietnam, mainly around Saigon. If there were "Forward Fire Bases" manned in April 1972, they were manned by ARVN troops (Army of the Republic Vietnam) aka South Vietnamese Troops, with US Military Advisors as a secondary role. The US Military Advisors were Commissioned Officers.

There are so many lies and bad lies in Scooter's Vietnam War fantasy, that it is easy to show that Scooter is just making it up as he goes along, because he has no idea what happened in the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War for the US was much different in 1972 than in 1968. The US military presence was much less in April 1972, and many of the US military personnel in Vietnam were connected to the USAF.

I hope this ends, any doubt that Scooter was in Vietnam during the Vietnam War in 1972. He made the whole thing up. There are no story bylines with his name on it from this time, there are no mentions in day by day actions in April 1972 of US military personnel in a firefight at a "Forward Fire Base", even there was a huge North Vietnam offensive during April 1972. It is all a fantasy of a pathological liar. It is really sad and pathetic.

As an added cringe factor, his lie contains a humble brag!

"I was nothing but a draft dodger who got very unlucky.
But....when the **** hit the fan, I did what I could."

Oh, and I also love:

"Grabbed a ride on a supply chopper.
Weather socked in."

He's borrowing lingo from ski mountains, lol. Was it snowing in Vietnam, Saigon Schattie?

Finally, he says "And that is the end of a very simply[sic] story." I believe what he meant to say was "a very simply MADE-UP story". LMAO!
