I've been out there twice, each for a week so can offer this.

First, how many are in your party, and whats 'not too expensive'?
Both times I went out I split a condo at Powderwood which is in
Kimball Jct, immediately off the interstate for Park City. I
think it worked out to be about 65-75 bucks a day when split out.
Its not motel 6, but its not the Palace either. YMMV

As for where to go..

Snowbird, Brighton, Canyons
Solitude and Powder Mountain (near Snowbasin).

I've not been to Powder, but heard great things about it.
Went to Snowbasin, didn't really enjoy it but a lot of it
was closed for Olypic preparations.

FYI, on clean roads the airport is about 40 minutes from
Park City, so all these places are close.
