_ I headed back up to Castle Peak in the Lake Tahoe area again
on Saturday Nov 7th. There was probably less snow that the week
before, but it was much more solid and heavier. There were a
couple inches of fresh on a fairly dense base. Still plenty
of rocks and branches to be found, but there were turns to
be had in a few spots.

_ I had my floppiest boots and skinniest skis, but usually in
semi-decent conditions I can manage low angle tele turns on
them. Not on Saturday though, I'm not sure whether it was
just first day creakiness or fear of trashing my knees on
hidden rocks, but I just couldn't get that feeling of being
"on" my skis. I was either ahead or behind and mostly on
the ground... .

_ Things were looking much better as I left, a least above
7K feet there should have been a pretty good sized dump
Saturday night. You probably still want to bring your
rock skis, but there should be enough snow now to ski
some of the less rock strewn slopes.
