Default Summer glacier skiing?

I just (late August) came back from Norway where I was near, but did not go
to where I could ski on a glacier. I didn't have much time and assumed it
would be lousy skiing (ice in the morning slush by midday). Has anyone
skied on a glacier in the summer there or Whistler Blackcomb or else where?
How was it?

Have done Timberline in Oregon. On one particularly warm day in the beginning
of August. The snow started out soft at 7AM and stayed in good firm enough
condition until noon. Very pleasant day.

I think going later in the summer helps. When snow becomes corn it has
less tendency to become real mushy and sticky. The warm day meant we
didn't have the morning ice issue.
