Default Paging the skiers - good obit

In Today's Times. Emile Allais, French skiing champion of bygone days,
who won the downhill on Kitzbuhel's Hahnenkahm in (get this) 1934, and
who didn't give the Nazi salute to Hitler at the 1936 Winter Olympics.

He helped develop modern ski bindings, helped estabish the resorts of
Courchevel, Meribel, and (in Chile) Portillo, and was skiing into his
90s, even after a collision with (inevitably) a snowboarder at the age
of 90 resulted in a broken shoulder.

Described in the 1950s by the New York Times as a "congenital member of
the suicide club".

Thoroughly recommended.
