Mammoth! (Tahoe Continued...)
Mammoth is about 3 to 3.5 hours past Tahoe in clear weather, not six.
If you gotta go, call the Motel 6 like LAL recommended.
It's a great mountain, but it's a 7+ hours drive from SF.

Walt,
Don't listen to them. It's about 45-50 miles from the parking lot at the
Reno airport to the parking lot at Squaw Valley. Maybe a little longer than
SLC to Alta, but not by much.
