Ski tuning lessons
 

Does anyone know of ski tuning lessons or classes that are being offered anywhere? I have no problem paying for the lessons. I just haven't found any. I live in the Northeast but am willing to travel for the lessons. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and happy skiing!

I don't know anywhere you can get basic lessons in ski tuning, although
there is stuff available for higher level training, like for
certification and such. The usual route is to find someone who knows
what he/she is doing, buy 'em a six or a case of whatever they drink,
and get 'em to show you how. It also helps to have some beat skis to
practice on, so you can make mistakes. Or you can look at the books and
vids available from Tognar
(http://www.tognar.com/books_manuals_...ng_repair.html)
or somewhere like that.

Tognar is great. Use their tools and some common sense. Practice
[puttinmg on different edge angles and ski them each time to see what
edge angles work best for you.

I seem to recall that the REI stores locally (Boston area) have done
this at times.

Basic tuning is a lot simpler than many people think, and the basic
tools may cost about the same as 2 or 3 professional tunings.

Really? I've never even seen alpine skis in an REI.

Yup. And you can sort of add to your tool set in increments if and as
you decide to do more involved stuff.

The big REI in Lower Downtown Denver has them. Or did the last time I
was there some years ago. And an REI in the burbs is where we got our
season passes for K/A/B this year.

I worked at the Reading store, and shop at Framingham most often. Both
have lots of alpine skis and gear every winter. Tends to crowd out the
XC and BC ski gear.

I have not been in the Boston store during the relevant season, and
have not made it to the new Hingham store, but I would be surprised if
they do not as well.

They may not have much available on the Web.

Tuning skis is a bit more important when dealing with New England
