The promo run for the news story was more exciting than the story

I heard a few different excerpts on WCBS radio, from he does not
care about winning gold and the drunk episode was the race after he
won the overall title. They showed him under the influence of last
nights partying after the overall win. The video show's him a little
shaky leaving the starting gate.
But his answers were typical bode responses with no definitive answers

Text is on the CBS website under 60 minutes; I've got the link around
somewhere if anyone wants it and can't find it.

I have read it several times and viewed a few more web sites and spoke
to a few non skiers that watched 60 minutes most felt that he got the
shaft in that story.

"Bode called it "character assassination" and said CBS was assuring
him by midday it was a "glowing profile.""

You know, my read on it is that far from glorifying it (as some have
accused him of doing), he's explaining why skiing drunk is a Bad Idea.
But even so, he's now got all kinds of people (including Bill Marolt)
down on his ****.

I give even odds that he tells Marolt to go **** himself and quits.

Not until after Torino.

I think the point that most people don't seem to get is that all this
is not for Bode's gain. If he just cared about himself, he'd put-up
and shut-up. He's trying to change the system for the good of all ski
racers and he's using exmaples of what he's done in the past and of how
others have been hurt by the rules in an effort to expose the things
that need to change. This is way more than just about skiing with a
hang over folks.

Through his honesty, he is willing to sacrifice his hero status in
order to see things change for the better. He actualy wanted to see
how the press would handle what he said. That's why he mentioned
skiing hung over in the 1st place - to prove that the media will take
things out of context in an effort to create a big story. He was right
- again.

Go Bode!

Chuck,

Bode's skiing is not of this planet. I don't care what place he's in
(2nd overall BTW) or how many DNF's he's got, the guy is out of this
world amazing.

Watched it live at the Beaver Creek WC GS this year.

I wonder if he could do that now and still compete in the WC and at the
Olympics.

For example, Koznick, she's not a part of the US Ski Team, yet she
represents the US at WC events and at the Olympics. Bode could do that
too, but I'm not sure how that all works and it may be too late in the
seson for that.

Probably not. A deal like Team Koz takes time to set up. I don't think
he gives a damn at this point. Marolt and Co. have put the heat on the
coaches, who are going to give Bode an ultimatum...can you see him
holding still for it? This is a disaster and could have been avoided if
certain people weren't so damn pigheaded and ignorant.

Television is easy. If that's not what you want to say, then don't
****ing say that. Simple.

Not quite. They can cut & paste to make you look like a moron almost at
will.

Indeed; that short segment was assembled from something like six hours
of tape.

60-minutes is especially good at stacking the deck whichever way they

want.
Ford fuel tanks, phony National Guard docs and Andy Rooney. Case closed.

Are you saying the CBS invented the exploding Pinto?
