thorlo socks when you ski vs run or bike,,,, i wore 1 pr w my race
skate and cold feet never seemed to be a prob but im wondering if i
should have tried thin bike socks for a real super fit but,,, get
cold??

For touring I usually wear two pairs of thin socks for warmth and
blister protection. The inner pair are thin polypro liner socks. The
outter pair are thin wool or wool/synthetic blend. Often I wear thin
downhill ski socks as the outter layer since I already own them for
downhill skiing. Downhill socks also stay up really well.

I use only Bridgedale socks, they are the absolute best I've ever
found and I've tried a bunch in the past 35 years. Best fit, best
comfort, best warmth for the weight, EXTREMELY good wearing. They
outwear Smartwool (my previous choice) by about 10X. Therefore well
worth the price (they're not cheap).

I use the crosscountry socks, with no liner for both striding and
skating.

I'll have to check these out because I currently use Smartwool socks
and have never had a problem with feel getting cold ... classic or
skate.

I am kind of gushing aren't I 8-). One of the reasons I gush so much
is that it is natural for someone to look at the price and think "no
way" because you can probably buy a couple pair of Smartwool or
similar good quality socks for the same price.

Seriously, I got a pair as a gift a few years ago and was *very*
skeptical because (1) they are very expensive and (2) they seemed to
be way "over engineered". But after using them, I decided that the
design actually was functionally excellent for xc skiing and then
after a couple of years with absolutely no sign of wear, I decided
they were quite a bit more durable than my old Smartwool socks which
got threadbare on the bottoms at the balls of my feet and the heels
after a couple seasons. I now have 3 1/2 pair of Bridgedale socks
(don't ask, but you probably know what happened). The original 1 1/2
pair are still good as new after I think 4 seasons of use - and I ski
probably 100 times per year. No signs of wear.

Sierra Trading Post has the cross county Bridgedale for $9.95. They
are supposed to be cosmetic seconds. I'll see when the order arrives.
