Ski buddies for adaptive skiing in French Alps
 

We had an enquiry via the website from two American skiers who are planning
a ski trip to France. They are disabled and use sit skis (they have their
own equipment) and hoped to find ski buddies who could ski with them to help
them on and off the lifts. They have made enquiries to ski schools, all of
which would charge the hourly rate as if they were having a lesson.

They particularly wanted to ski in Avoriaz and La Plagne because of the
handiski facilities but I think they would be open to going anywhere they
could get some support and that has accessible terrain. They are prepared to
pay for the service, apparently they pay about 80 US dollars a day in the
USA.

Does anyone offer this service or are there any suggestions as to who they
could approach for help ?

You might like to put these guys in touch with the Uphill Ski Club
(now renamed to http://www.disabilitysnowsport.org.uk/ ) who do good
work in providing opportunities for disabled skiers. If nothing else,
they should have more information about Alpine resorts with
appropriate facilities.

If you're still looking for helpers, my wife and I might also be
available. She's a qualified instructor, and we're both Ski Club
(volunteer) leaders, and would love to help if we can. We're based in
Engelberg, Switzerland, but I don't know what facilities are available
there - I have seen quite a few people unsing adaptive skiing,
including sit-skis, so the staff on the mountain are certainly used to
the idea and lifts etc. shouldn't be a problem.

3 homes burglarized for $40,000 in jewelry
 

Burglars took more than $40,000 in TIFFANY BRACELETS jewelry from three homes in Glenview last week, authorities said.Someone entered a home in the 2300 block of Lily Lane late last week and took $41,000 worth of jewelry, according to police.
