Hey - be nice to the Free Press. I used to deliver that paper when I was about 12-14 years old, 6 days a week, no matter what the weather. I think I made about a penny a day from each customer.

Here is a different view from the local TV station --

I think they stick that little survey in at random. I always choose the first item without really reading them,

I am old enough to remember when that road was not paved. I think the Hazen's Notch road is still unpaved and is also closed in the winter, but there are no ski areas on it.

My uncle, fresh out of high school, worked as a dump truck driver when the State widened and paved the McCollough Turnpike west of Appalachian Gap, mid-1950s. That road used to be closed in the winter right at the Mad River Glen entrance on the east side of the Gap. My brother and I were spending a week on the farm in Fayston, so my uncle took us for a ride one evening in the old Chevy pickup to see the construction site. We rode in the back and the wind blew sawdust in our eyes.

Funny how the old memories are fresher than some of the new ones.
