Today was a perfect race for Canada, after Hattestad having to do all
the work to catch up with Finland, he couldn't hold on to his lead on
the final 30-40 m, and came close to dropping back to third on the
finish line.

Was this the first men's xc championship gold for Canada?

Hi Terje,

Yes, that was not only the first gold but the first medal of any
colour for Canadian men at either World Champs or Olympics.

That's what the finger kiss from Alex was about at the finish line,
not "shhh"ing the crowd. Its seems to be a misunderstood gesture.
