Alta/Snowbird in January?
 

I'm thinking of taking a week at Alta/Snowbird in January. Any advice
on places to stay? I suppose the top-level choice is whether to stay
at Alta or Snowbird. I guess there is more to do at night at Snowbird
than Alta, though not much at either place. That's OK, all I need is a
decent bar to have a few drinks in and unwind. Can you get back and
forth between Alta and Snowbird at night?

I don't think I want to stay in Salt Lake - I don't like "commuter
skiing" vacations much.

The way the season is going, I guess conditions are going to be good by
January. Maybe the only worry would be that avalanche conditions would
kep you trap inside your hotel.

If you are by yourself ask for the old rooms in the Rustler Lodge with just
a sink (it is a long walk down the hall to the community showers). We are
talking Alta here.

....either way, SLC may be the place to try a commuter trip. They had a
great road system to start with and an even better one after the olympics.
You can stay off the highway or downtown for a very reasonable rate,
be within walking distance of restaurants and bars, and the best thing
is that you're 30-45 minutes from several great resorts. Why limit
yourself to only Alta/Snowbird? (not saying you would...)

I hear ya, though. It is nice to get off the slopes and go directly
to a hot tub instead of your car.


Also, something to note, if you land early in the day, you can ski
free the day you land at Canyons, Park City or Deer Valley. Just bring
your boarding pass to the ticket window and you'll get a ticket.
They're trying to promote how close the ski areas are from the airport.

LOL, going back and forth. are you talking about walking, running or skiing?
No you cannot, unless you have a car with you.

Yes, you can walk between Alta and Snowbird, day or night. I've done
it many times. Just avoid the main road. It's about 1/2 hour on
foot, one way.

The earlier poster is right about The Cliff Lodge, many beautiful
people usually.

If you do venture down into town, don't miss The Hogs Wallow Bar, any
local can tell you how to get there. I have found many local ladies
with "peanut butter legs" hang out there.

Ahem. I guess I don't know what "peanut butter legs" means. I've
heard of "cottage cheese thighs", but not that.

Never heard that myself but easy to spread comes to mind.

That is correct; Brown, smooth, and easy to spread. Don't let that
bar name fool you, a great place for evening games.
