Jay T Solves U.S. Nordic Team Problems!!!
No, I didn't give the nordic team a ton of money. That would be hard
since I don't have any. However, here are the steps I've come up with to fix the cross country ski program. I'm sure the USSA/USST/Team Today will follow these steps to the letter... 1) All USSA sanctioned races will be sprints, sprint relays, 5K, 10K and 15K and 4 x 5 and 4x 10 Relays only. There will be no 20K, 30K or 50K events. We are going to focus on building speed. 2) All USST athletes will stay in Europe from November through March. Okay, they can come home for the Holidays. 3) National Championships will be held at the end of March or beginning of April. There will be a 30K and 50K National Championship for those who want to participate. I expect U.S. based Marathon Series skiers will win the long distance championships. I agree they need to "fix" the program, as in fix it in stone, on
paper. they need to do an analysis of everything they did the last four years and follow it to the T. They have NEVER had this much vision or potential. |
It makes you think that this is like in track, where the Americans
shine in everything up to 440/400m and relays and the rest of the world gets the everything longer. Mr. Rheubarbpielover is blunt but has a point i think.
How many of us have read about 4 hour rollerskis and workouts that are so long you wonder how they can be accomplished. Speed might be the US's limiting factor. Jay - and Rheubarb have great points. As someone once said "Speed kills. It kills those that DON'T have it." As for the "endurance can actually f*** up your mind" comment ... I'll admit my IQ seems slightly lower after 3 hours of double poling. JK off to sweden in 5 hours 23 min. wrote in message oups.com... did you know that short sprinting w/ repetition is a better workout than long-distance endurance. endurance can actually **** your mind up, vicious cycle, can't break the mind/body enigma, that's the U.S. problem, they don't touch the void. Besides endurance is boring and American's hate boring ****. |
Remember - K Smigun (double Gold, Torino) shocked her contemporaries
with the slow pace of her training this year. Hmmm. (ref: helpful link to jenex blog, thanks) pie: intervals are "better" for what, exactly ? Getting into the WC Red Group ? Sprints or distance ? Too general ! Everyone needs both. The fact is that there is no replacement for high training volume over the years. Sure, tweak it up with intervals here & there, but show me the athlete with 750+ hours over the last 5 years who is having a hard time staying in the Red Group, intervals or whatever ! OK - BESIDES Per Eloffssen (sp?) !! He admitted he was tinkering with the outer limits of his ability to process great volumes of hours. Jay T - you got the plan. Lock it. Bring it. Partial list of successful American athletes who have done well in their sports, who are actually part time or full time residents in Europe, or even property owners: Lance A Tyler H (miss that guy) Bode Miller Daron Rahlves Jay Hakkinen others ? definite pattern there Let's get a place perhaps in Lillehammer for Kris, AJ, Southam, etc...we'll visit for the Norweigan Birkie while they are away for the WC chasing the podium. Jay, make sure your pal Chad Giese knows about the European Nordic Ski House please. Kid's got huge potential in my book. Hope he can unleash it all. |
Hell, screw the good skiers. Lets get a place in Lillehammer for
Tegeder, Wenner, Dell Todd, O'Connell, etc. and stock the place with plenty of Tuborg Gron (eller Den Stor Gron), firewood, good food and other essentials. Terje, how's your realestate skills? Jay (Skol) Wenner |

Terje, how's your realestate skills? I happen to know that a relatively small cabin at Sjusjøen, without water or electricity, went for NOK 1.2 M a month ago. That's almost $200 K. :-( In comparison, the one we owned above Rjukan, with perfect view, upgraded electrical system, and a lot big enough to build another cabin or two, fetched $140 K. However, if you take a look at the Google Earth file I linked to in my previous post, the skiing at Rauland is IMHO just as good as above Lillehammer. The total trail length is less, but the scenery is nicer, and there are more varied skating trails. http://norloff.org/terje/rauland-ski.kmz Terje -- - "almost all programming can be viewed as an exercise in caching" |
That's hot !
We'll definitely need the FrontRunner & Pete / The Birkiebeiner. SKOL ! |
I wasn't able to open that link....kmz file? I'll start up a bake sale
and let you know when we start getting close to $200k. That's a lot of cookies. BTW, what happened to Brian May. Is he still in Duluth, or was that too warm? Jay |

You need to download/install GE first, but you need to do that anyway just to marvel at the scenry in locations you know, as well as all those you'd like to visit! and let you know when we start getting close to $200k. That's a lot of cookies. I know. :-( Anyway, as I said, Rauland is even nicer, and much cheaper, and there is a very nice hotel smack in the center of all the trails. Terje PS. The hotel has free WiFi over fiber, 10 Mbit/s in both directions. :-) -- - "almost all programming can be viewed as an exercise in caching" |
