FWIW, the reasons I use the news.cis.dfn.de server is because of dropped posts and slow/poor propogation with the news.swcp server - those problems persist in other ngs I subscribe to as well on swcp.news. I stopped reading my ISP's newsfeed because it seemed to be down frequently and dumped old posts sooner than the German feed. Husband uses the ISP's feed. Yesterday morning he asked me to send a message to them asking when their feed would be up again -- it had been down since at least midnight. Later in the day I got back a message saying that I couldn't read news via NNTP, I had to log in to shell.(isp).com and read news there. Coincidentally, their feed was back up again. I sent back email asking how long it's been that way. This morning they replied that it has NEVER been possible to read news via NNTP in the seven years that they've been operational. Meanwhile, of course, I can read their newsfeed with four different newsreaders, all of which assume that they're using NNTP. The only "help" person I've ever found there who knew his ass from his hat is the owner. Since everything seems to be working, I'm reluctant to bother him with this interesting little non-problem -- last year he worked over the weekend to get the feed up and running again just for us. "No, I'm sorry, gravity doesn't work here..." sigh Nice TR, BTW. And kudos to klaus and the whole rsam modstaff. Big fat ones! -- Cheers, Bev +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "I don't care who your father is! Drop that cross one more time and you're out of the parade!" |
