Well I managed to brilliantly bang myself up last Sunday.
Wasn't even out that long and was on last run .. kinda
zoned thinking about some things I had to do and just
lost the edge while traversing toe side.. probably a bit
of ice as we've had a bunch of thaw/freeze here in NE.

Seems to be the same injury I had a couple years ago
and I'm just trying to figure out how it happens. Front leg,
calve pull/tear. As I slid on my stomach to a stop
the board did skip/hit once or twice. My best guess is
the frontside edge may have caught hold under that foot
and then the board rotated back (downhill) sharply before
disengaging and sliding some more. The leg hurts the most
now when fully extended and the heel dips down...

Sadly I'm missing a nice day of snow..(well snowball snow)
but this stuff bumps up instantly and I think better to
wait a day or two more than make it worse.

Has anyone else had a similar injury or have any other
ideas on how it happened? I guess from now on I'm
raising my feet up the first moment I can after washing
out!

Crickey Mike, take it easy eh!

My closest to that was taking a run down a mogul field which turned into
car sized lumps. I timed a turn wrong, caught an edge, flipped out and
almost popped my knee as the board caught whilst I was sliding on my butt.
Like you, I figure that I'll try and keep the board up next time.

Get well soon.

I would propose that significantly bending your knees while trying to stop on
your back would significantly reduce this risk.
The edge would scrape rather than grab, and if it grabs, your knees will absorb
it, and bend more to release the edge.
I'm going to have to play with this.

In trying to think back to the actual event (its a bit
blurry as afterall I wasn't paying close attention!) I
think post the initial loss of edge it was not an edge
sliding event instead the board was above ground (while I was
frontside down) for a second or two and then I made
contact again very abruptly and probably with my legs
fully extended from the wash out. Had both front and
back foot held uniformly I might have bounded upright
and done less damage, who knows.

What is interesting is now that the black/blue is finally
nearing the surface I see also see brusing about half way
between ankle and knee on the front and instep side. I
also check the height of top edge of my boots relative
to known bruises and for most part bruises are below that
level.

I was able to take a few runs yesterday in the powder...
going straight in powder was ok, though I keep speed
well in check. Turning on the surface or off lift
on toe-edge was still painful. And here we got another
18" and the place is on windhold still at noon :(
