Any advice on Rabbit Ears Pass?

I took the shuttle from Denver International to Steamboat 2 years ago, and
at night, in the middle of a snowstorm, Rabbit Ears Pass was quite hairy.
This season I am returning, this time with my wife and daughter, and have
rented a Jeep Cherokee for the journey. This will be in early January and I
can't help noticing that an awful lot of snow seems to be arriving already.
I am used to driving in snow but would welcome any advice for the trip.
Also, does anyone know a US website that sells Pay-As-You-Go SIM cards that
I could insert in my triple-band mobile phone, for the duration of the trip.
In UK, PAYG SIM cards are easy to obtain and are cheap but all I can find
for the USA is rental of a complete phone.

Just drive slow and you will be fine. Give plenty of space between you
and the guy in front of you. Nothing really to worry about it if you go
at a comofrtable pace.

Never heard of this. But I am not totally up on mobile phone
technology. Unfortunately, neither are US mobile phone carriers...

I'm pretty sure you won't find these in the US, you'll have to stock up in
the UK before you go.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way over here. The phone
companies just don't play fair and wont until we pass some laws to
make them.

For those who don't know what we are talking about, in Europe you buy
your phone seperate from your plan provider and just get the SIM card
from your provider. Here, if you want to switch providers you need to
get a new phone. Just another way to lock you into a provider. At
least we are making progress with number portability.
