Are their any "Snowboard Only - No Skis" Resorts out there yet ?

I'm going to resist the urge to consider this a troll post, because in the
USA there are resorts that do not allow snowboarding - to the best of my
knowledge the current list is: Alta, Deer Valley, Taos, Mad River Glen.
This list has shrunk somewhat over the past 10 years. So one reaction by
snowboarders might be to start a snowboard-only resort.

What's your ideal "snowboard-only" resort like? Is it like a normal ski
resort, only no skiers allowed? Or is the whole thing one big terrain
park? What about alpine snowboarders (using hard boots), monoskis, and
split-boards - would they be allowed at your "no-ski" resort?

I would rather not see such a thing. First, the rift between skiers and
snowboarders has been closing in many areas over the years and I for one am
happy about that. Snowboarders and skiers are getting long better.
Pushing for a snowboard-only resort would probably renew some of the
tension, and I have no wish to see that.

What about families with young kids who are big enough to ski but not to
snowboard? Do you want to alienate them? Before you answer, realize that
people who have been snowboarding since they were pre-teens are in many
cases having kids of their own these days. For young-uns that start early,
the road to becoming a snowboarder often starts on skis.

Finally, I find it hard to believe that a resort could get started without
allowing pretty much anyone who wants to come. The four places I mentioned
above have an established clientele and are well established financially so
they get away with turning away snowboarders. I have a hard time imagining
a well -established resort turning away it's skiing customers.

It would be reverse dip****-itis. Mountains are big places; plenty of
room for everyone.

Personally, I'd like to see a resort where preening snow bunnies,
aristocratic elitist wieners, & folks that stop in the middle of the
hill to talk were banned.

The key is to get out on non-holiday weekdays... most resorts are remarkably
lacking in all of the above on such days!

For example, Mt Hood Meadows, OR is a completely different place on weekends
and weekdays. I only wish I could ride more during the week this season,
cause during a low snow year the weekends are particularly awful!

MRG of the 4 at least has some excuse - natural snow and trails
in VT. That might mean 100" or 300" in a season. Ice included
at no extra charge :)

Its funny as this is something I've joked about with friends for
awhile now.. 'when I win the lottery....'

Don't want to start a flame fest about skiiers, but I honestly
wouldn't care if any were offended by the creation of a boarding
only resort. It would make many a day out more enjoyable - just
personal opinion, YMMV.

As for what I'd like to see - not a whole lot different, just a lot
less bumps :) I'm not saying I'd eliminate them as on some runs
some degree of bumps are necessary to keep the snow. So there will
be one or two very happy "ski" patrollers. This way we would finally
have an answer to that age old question 'do boarders *really* push
all the snow to the bottom of the mountain'.

And if the snow is generally soft, a few bumped runs just for a
change up, maybe more in the late season when even beginners can
go in without worrying about killing themselves on ice boulders.

I don't think I would cut any trails differently - its not the trails
its the quality of the snow and I just think in most cases skiiers
trash things a lot quicker then boarders.

And sure there would be the requiste park/pipes, but that would be
no more than 10-15% of the ridable area.

Tools w/ bench off every lift set up like a bus stop shelter. Like
who wants to be *ing around with bindings in blowing snow and your
hands going numb 10 secs after you start?

Attention to exit ramps/landings from lifts. Do what needs to be
done to eliminate that 20 feet of ice crud and eliminate a lot of
beginner wipeouts. Must be those bad memories of trying to skate
off on a board instead of in a pair of CCM's!

Need a survey on this one, but I'd rip off all those foot(ski)
rests on chairs. Always in the way on a quad with 4 boards.

I don't know.. I think any other things I would do aren't
specific to just boarders.

ps - no, I don't hate all skiiers.

You're a funny guy. If I ruled the world, all side-slipping boarduroy
makers would be relegated to the bunny hill.

I am going to bite on this one, only because there once was.....

In Ontario, there was a place that opened called the Ranch, which was a
small, snowboard only hill. It was mainly just a park, a couple of
brutal jumps, etc.

At first it only allowed snowboarders, then they started to allow
skiiers, mini-skis, etc. Then it shriveled up and died, mainly becuase
that area doesn't really get snow.

So, indeed, there has been a snowboard only resort (resort used lightly
in this case)

WOH! Hey, let's leave the snow bunnies alone, will ya!? I for one
appreciate the lift line scenery and let's face it, its not like
they're tracking up the trees, bumps, or pretty much anything if it
isn't a blue-bird day. Let's just leave little miss hotpants out of it,
thank you very much. :)

That said, as much as I hate to admit it, a side-slipping snowboard
rakes a lot more snow off the hill than a snowplowing skier. I love
the bumps and definitely see the texture of some bump runs altered by
snowboarders (bumps more randomly spaced and much further apart). That
isn't always the case, and I'll happily deal with it because the
flipside is that this year I've noticed more boarders in the bumps, and
riding them well, than previous years. So, we all have to learn
somewhere. I actually wish big resorts would have "Expert Only" bump
runs...if they see a boarder (or skier!) side-slipping a hill they mark
his ticket and he isn't allowed on that run...hone your skills on the
intermediate bump runs. But that's just me being a snob now that I can
board 'em. Come one, come all...I suspect when people have a pretty
awful run they probably avoid it the next time around anyway....

....that said, i've definitely shouted at snowboarders from the lift
"point it down the hill! ...try turning! ...board across instead of
scraping and leave some snow for the rest of us!..." :)

Well the temptation has certainly been there... but they wouldn't have a
clue what you're yelling about. Some of them would even claim to be
"carving". Many of them will be proudly bragging that they rode a
"black diamond" run that day.
